The Maru approach derives from the lessons we learn in our workshop. The character of the wood and the way it exists in nature guide the process. Through mordanting, surfaces are treated to reduce immediate visual impact and to protect the material’s qualities. This helps slow down consumption and elicit interaction. Mordanted wood is then protected with natural oils, once again carefully chosen for the occasion. As such the wood, the mordant and the oil, all natural substances, come together and interact in unexpected ways, granting the object a life ot its own.
